Overview
The Commonwealth has a portfolio standard goal. Virginia also allows multipliers for certain types of technology.
- Two credits are received for each MWh of electricity generated from a wind or solar facility.
- Three credits are received for each MWh of electricity generated from an offshore wind farm.

Electricity must be generated or purchased in Virginia or in the PJM service territory
Reporting Year
January 1 through December 31
Banking
Excess RECs acquired during an RPS goal period can be applied to any future RPS goal.

- Wind power
- Geothermal energy
- Hydropower
- Wave
- Tidal
- Biomass energy
- Research and development expenses related to renewable energy can meet up to 20% of the renewable energy goal, as of the effective date of SB413 (2012).
